How to Use Aloe Vera Gel to Dry Shave

Susan Brown
Have you ever been in the situation with no access to warm running water, and you really need to shave your hairy legs? Well no fear -- if you've got 100% aloe vera gel on hand, you can get the job done quite beautifully. (Note: make sure you are using 100% aloe vera, with no added ingredients like alcohol which will really burn your skin.)

The Steps:

1. Rub your legs with a dry cloth, in effect "exfoliating" and lifting the hairs up that naturally lay flat or are slightly ingrown on the leg.

2. Massage the legs with aloe vera gel, and allow it to dry for a moment. Get used to the feeling on your legs, as it will be rather cool. You need to get used to the feeling so that you don't have any goosebumps when you pick up the razor '" goosebumps are your worst enemy when it comes to dry shaving! You may also want to be sure to be in a warm environment to help controlling goosebumps.

3. Once that layer is soaked into your skin and dry and warm, go ahead and rub some more aloe vera gel between your palms, warming it up a bit, and apply it to the leg you want to shave.

4. Pick up a sharp razor, never dull when you want to dry shave, and go to work! Shave against the growth of hair to prevent ingrown hairs, and don't run the razor over the spot too many times as it will only end up in razor burn and lots of pain!

5. You can add more aloe vera gel as you see fit, especially if it has begun to dry on the skin before you can reach that area with the razor.

6. Once you are finished shaving that leg, take the cloth and wipe the skin gently.

7. Add another layer of aloe vera gel and allow it to dry on the skin, or alternatively, you can use your favorite lotion.

8. Repeat with the other leg, following all of the steps.

Aloe vera gel has so many great uses, when it is 100% aloe vera. You can use it even when you have a shower and water handy, as a way to prevent razor burn -- or even as your shaving gel in the shower! And, of course, it has many other uses like as a hair gel (the healthiest thing you can use on your hair -- and it makes it super shiny), a daily lotion, and as a 2nd layer to put over your lotion to seal it in.
