How I Am Planning My Next Family Vacation to Aruba

For our next family vacation - Aruba here we come…..again!

If you're like me, you treasure vacations because they are the reward of working hard. The trick to making the reward more enjoyable is basic planning and organization.

We found Aruba several years ago and have been fortunate to be able to maintain a schedule that is now a routine. For most, just the thought of going out of the country conjures up high cost. No worries, as Aruba is truly an affordable destination. We normally book our vacation one year in advance, however, that may not be necessary for you. However, since international travel is required plan accordingly.

Aruba is themed as the "friendliest island" in the world and I agree. Here are some of my money saving tips:

Air Travel. Your research can be accomplished on-line. This is your biggest expense because you are traveling internationally but the costs are very affordable. From the West Coast expect no more than $600 per person. From the East Coast expect approximately $400 per person. The trick is to gauge air fares six months prior to your departure. Around the 4th, no later than the 3rd month, you want to have your air fare booked.

Lodging. Your research can be accomplished on-line. This is where you can save the most money. Since Aruba is tourist-friendly, you can stay at a first class resort for a fraction of the normal $3,500 cost. The nice thing for a family is most resorts have Villas which sleep up to 8, so through some basic web searches you can nab deals from $1,300 - $1,600 and that is for 7 days

Getting Around. Tourism is one of Aruba's biggest industries. Transportation is very good; however we opt to rent a car, as the cost is less than $300 for the week. Of all the times we have visited we have never used a full tank of gas, so assuming a tank of gas, your cost will be $40. Another benefit of having your car is it will save you money versus opting for the bus or taxis. You will be able to explore the island and find those deals you have been craving versus being led around to the usual tourist-traps.

Food. Another benefit of staying at the timeshare is it is furnished. We have a fully stocked kitchen, so even though we eat out, we also have the option to save money by purchasing groceries and cooking our meals, while relaxing in our home away from home.

Entertainment. There is lots to do in Aruba. We normally visit a few clubs but spend much time shopping, on the beach, and checking out the sites. The island is full of first class casinos. In addition to gambling, many casinos provide live entertainment. Who knows you may get lucky and pay for your vacation while having some fun!

One final tip is to be sure and commit to adding several bulletin boards as part of your research and planning. These are invaluable as you will be able to gain perspectives from people who have visited. You will also get more information on possible deals, places to visit and other tidbits that may not be otherwise available.
