How to Apply Advantage Flea Medication to Cats and Dogs

Advantage is a flea medication prescribed by veterinarians for both cats and dogs. Advantage is produced by the Bayer HealthCare Animal Health Division. It is important that Advantage be applied correctly for it to be effective. Each dose lasts 30 days, and then a new dose is needed to get rid of any fleas on your pet, and keep them off.

Prescription for Advantage

Follow these steps to apply Advantage to cats:

Step 1:
Choose the correct Advantage for your cat. There are two options: Advantage for kittens or cats that weigh less than 9 lbs., and Advantage for cats that weigh over 9 lbs.

Step 2:
Remove and open one applicator each month.

Step 3:
Part your cat's fur at the base of its skull. Expose the skin in a location that the cat will have trouble licking.

Step 4:
Squeeze the applicator over the exposed skin until all of the contents have been placed on your cat's skin.

Step 5:
Throw the applicator in the trash. You can let go of your cat as soon as you have finished applying the Advantage.

Follow these steps to apply Advantage to dogs:

Step 1:
Choose the correct Advantage for your dog. You have four choices, according to weight: under 10 lbs., between 11 and 20 lbs., between 21 and 55 lbs. and over 55 lbs.

Step 2:
Remove and open one applicator each month.

Step 3:
Part your dog's fur at the base of its skull in between the shoulders. Expose the skin in a location that the dog will have trouble reaching.

Step 4:
Squeeze the applicator over the exposed skin until all of the contents have been placed on your dog's skin.

Step 5:
Throw the applicator in the trash. You can let go of your dog as soon as you have finished applying the Advantage.

Warning:
Avoid getting the Advantage in your cat or dog's eyes.
