How To: Apply Eyeshadow

Understanding the Basics!

The first thing you need to focus on is an eyeshadow base. An eyeshadow base will help your eyeshadow stand out, as well as stay on longer than normal. There are so many eyeshadow bases on the market, for example Urban Decay Primer Potion, Too Faced Shadow Insurance, Mary Kay's Signature Eye Primer, etc.

After you have applied your base and it has dried. It is now time to decided what colors you plan on using. It's best to use things that will bring out your eyes, for example, I have green eyes, so its best if you use colors such as purples and reds to bring out my green eyes! If you have blue eyes, you should use things like yellows and orange type colors (including golds). Things such as browns (neutrals) can be used by anyone.

The mid-range color is to be used on the lid, the darkest color is to be used on the crease, and the lightest color is to be used as a highlight color (under the brow bone).

It's best if you start off by building your eyeshadow a little at a time, so you do not apply too much eyeshadow to your eye lids.

The key to getting a seamless look you need to blend, blend, blend. Take a fluffy eyeshadow brush and use it where the colors meet. Softly brush the eyeshadow in a ciricular motion to blend where the colors meet each other. If you feel that you have blended it out to much, just add a little more, and finish blending it out!

Once you have blended all your eyeshadows to the desired shade, you should also place a little bit of the lightest shade on the inner corner of your eyelid and blend it out a little bit. This will help open up your eyes a little and make them appear to be further apart.

After you have gotten all that done, you can now apply your eyeliner on your upper lid, lower lash line, as well as your water line, and you can even line the water line on your upper lid, this is called tightlining! Look forward to an article on how to properly apply Eyeliner in the very near future!
