The way I have found to best apply Liquid Foundation, is to start with a freshly washed face, that has been dried, and then apply a light moisturizer with sunscreen.
Then apply a face primer, for example MAC Fix+, Cat Cosmetics Silk Purrfection Primer, etc.
Once the face primer is completely absorbed into your skin it is time to wet your make-up sponge, with water, then wring it out to where it is just damp, so it does not absorb your Liquid Foundation.
Next put a little bit of Liquid Foundation on your sponge and dot it on your forehead, chin, and each of your cheeks, as well as the tip of your nose.
Once you have placed all the dots you need on your face it is time to blend it in. Start in a downward, circular motion, on the forehead, starting at the hairline.
Next work the dot on your nose, then work some of that foundation onto your T-zone, and blend out towards your eyebrows.
After you have blended the dot on your nose, start blending your cheeks, again keep blending down and in outward and do the same on each side, as well as down the sides of your nose, and lightly on your eyelids.
As for the chin, make sure your make-up sponge is still damp, if it's not please wet it again, and wring it again just like before, start by working the dot on your chin out to the left and right of your chin in a downward motion to meet where the dot on your cheeks didn't cover.
Make sure you blend really well, at the jaw line so it doesn't look like you are wearing make-up.
Some women choose to use their fingers, but with your fingers it can become a complete mess. So I choose to use a wedge make-up sponge that you can get from any drug store, Wal-mart, Target, or any make-up supply store. Which are inexpensive and can be used once and thrown away!
After you have applied the foundation it is time to apply concealer. Yes, you apply concealer after you have applied foundation, because if you do it the other way around, you will just wipe away the concealer, that is covering the spots you are trying to hide.
If you are one of those people who choose to use Cream Foundation, you will not want to dampen your sponge with water, you will want to use it dry. If you have dry skin then Cream Foundation is not something you will want to use, due to the fact that it at times can be rather messy, and show where your skin is flaky.
But you will apply it in the same way you applied the Liquid Foundation, starting by putting the product on the forehead, cheeks, chin, and nose.
Blend just like the Liquid, but without the wet sponge. Usually Cream Foundation is not something your should blend with your fingers, but again, that is normally personal preference.
With Powder foundation, this is an easy thing to apply.
The best way to apply it is with a nice big Kabuki brush. Start by evenly coating your brush in the Powder Foundation, and then lightly tapping some excess off the brush, start at your forehead blending in a circular motion, starting at your hairline and working you way down. Then do the nose blending down from the T-zone. If you need to go back to your foundation and get more just make sure you evenly coat the brush, and then tap of any extra. Then go do the cheeks, as always in a downward circular motion. Then blend at the jaw line and the chin area.
If you are using a Liquid or Cream Foundation, then you will want to set it with some Loose Face Powder in translucent!
