Marriage laws vary by state and country. You can learn about local laws and regulations by calling or writing to the office of your city or town. Should you live in a large city, you would need to contact the Marriage License Bureau.
A blood test is required in most states before you and your partner can apply for a marriage license. You and your partner must take the blood test within 3 days before applying. A complete physical examination may also need to be completed in some states. The test and examination may be performed by your family doctor. Let your doctor know that you are about to get married and ask him or her to fill out all the necessary forms you will need. You may have to wait several days for lab test results, so you should plan at least one week prior to planning to apply for your marriage license.
