Get the Money You Need for College

Lea Barton
If you are of Hawaiian heritage and want to go to college or you have children who want to go to college, you should know that native Hawaiian people can get a grant for college through the United States government. This means that if you are native Hawaiian with indigenous heritage, you can get free money to go to college. College is one of the most costly expenses in a person's life, and if you are a parent who wants to send your children to college but can't possible afford it, this may be the answer. In the following article you will learn how to apply for native Hawaiian education grants so that you or your child or grandchildren can go to college for free.

Go to the U.S. government website, Grants.gov, for educational grants. Register on the U.S. government grant website. You have to register with your information and create a user name and password in order to apply for a native Hawaiian education grant or any other grant. Make sure you remember your user name and password for future purposes.

Apply for the education grant available for native Hawaiians or people with indigenous heritage. You will need to fill out the application completely and thoroughly. Do not leave any parts blank or they may not accept your application. Read the application carefully and give them all of the information they request. Knowing your ancestry, including which parent, grandparent or great-grandparent was from Hawaii, the date of birth and birth location and is important for some grant programs.

Follow all of the guidelines. Your grant application won't even be reviewed for consideration if you do not follow all of their specific guidelines. Every native Hawaiian college grant program is different; the federal program has different guidelines than the state program, for example.

Apply for the Hawaii State Incentive Grant as well. This is a grant for Hawaiian native students and is available to lower-income college students.

Submit your applications before the deadline. Pay attention to all deadlines to make sure that you submit your application in time to get the native Hawaiian education grant to pay for college.

Remember: registering on the U.S. government grant website may take up to a week, so don't wait until the application deadline of the education grant to register. If you do not have native Hawaiian heritage or native indigenous heritage than can be proven with documents, do not apply for grants for which you are not qualified.

Hey... I was wondering if there's any grant for people born in Hawaii, but that aren't native Hawaiian? Or are there any pros I don't know about? (And I know none.)

I am trying to sign up for grants but you keep asking for a credit card number at the end an I don't own a credit card.
