One winner in particular Guy Fieri has not only been able to parlay his win in 2006 to weekly shows on the Food Network, ( Guy's Big Bite & Diners, Drive Ins and Dives) but now has his own game show Minute to Win It and is raking in even more $$$ appearing in commercials. Can the big screen be far behind?
So as Bobby Flay would say," Do you have what it takes to be the next Food Network Star"? If so here is how and where to apply.
The open castings are currently underway across America. Atlanta, Los Angeles, New Orleans and Denver are close. Upcoming cities include New York City, Philadelphia, Nashville, and Cleveland.
Open casting calls are just that. There is no appointment needed. Show up between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and you will be seen by the casting team.
What to bring? Download and fill out the official Do You Want to Be the Next Food Network Star, application at http://www.foodnetwork.com/nfns-7casting-call/package/index.html . You will also need two recent photos of yourself and either a copy of your driver's licenses, passport or Social Security Card and Birth Certificate.
Don't bring your favorite dish, your baby or dog. Bring a magazine, book and your patience; there will be hundreds of hopefuls and you will be waiting in line a long time.
What to wear? Wear who you are. If you are a casual, blue jeans person, wear blue jeans. If you are a Glam Queen, dress up. If you are a pro, leave the whites at home and wear what you wear on your days off. If you are a regional cook, Hawaii perhaps, wear a Hawaiian shirt and flower lei. Don't wear advertising on your clothes, anything suggestive or pornographic. You want to stand out but at the same time you want to fit in.
What are they looking for? They are looking for The Next Food Network Star!!! Someone who knows their way around the kitchen and is passionate about food.
While you don't have to be a professional in the kitchen you should know how to use a knife and how to perfectly poach an egg. The NFNS contestant "wanna be" needs a personality that pops... no shrinking violets here. They need to have a culinary point of view. Don't say you want food to be healthy or food should be fun and think that will get you through. Expand; think about it so you can talk about your culinary point of view with passion and in depth.
