How to Apply Online to Be a Game Show Contestant

Elliot Feldman
Stuck in Keokuk? Ready and able to spin the Wheel of Fortune, but live in Ishpeming, Michigan? Winning prizes and cash on your favorite television game show may seem like only a remote possibility if you live outside New York or Los Angeles. However, thanks to the Internet, the playing field has been leveled and aspiring contestants from all over the country now have opportunities to become contestants on their favorite game shows.

Game show production company and television network web sites offer online testing, audition reservations, as well as basic show information and mail-in applications.

"Wheel of Fortune"

You can register online to become a "Wheel of Fortune" contestant. There are three contestant categories: Adult, College, and Teen.

"Jeopardy!"

There are multiple contestant application paths for Jeopardy! You can register to take an online contestant test in these categories: General, Adult, College, and Teen. Note that availability for online testing is sporadic, so check in regularly.

You can also register to take a contestant test on a "Jeopardy Brain Bus", a mobile testing vehicle that travels across the country. So, if you live in Keokuk or Ishpeming, you can audition in a location near you.

And, of course, you can register to audition live in Los Angeles, which is probably the best way to get on the show.

Note that aspiring contestants can only take the Jeopardy! test once a year, no matter if the testing is online or live.

"Power of Ten"

The Power of Ten web site offers straight-up contestant application information with a snail-mail production company address.

NBC's Casting Page for "1 vs 100", "Deal or No Deal"

You'll find contestant application information for the game shows "1 vs 100" and "Deal or No Deal" at NBC's online casting page. And you'll also find casting info for the network's reality shows such as "America's Got Talent", "Make Me a Supermodel", and "Dr. Steve-O".

"Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader"

Like "Power of Ten", the "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" contestant application page offers straight-up contestant application information with a snail-mail production company address.

A side note:

You can also make reservations for game show studio audience tickets online. Unlike contestant auditions, free audience tickets can be acquired through ticket agencies independent of television studios or production companies.

And you can also play along with certain television game shows online in real time, or you can even play games 24/7 against multiple players.
