First of all, slow down. If you involve yourself in too many things, you are going to feel exhausted and overworked. You will not have the time to appreciate those little things in life. You need to give yourself a little bit of time so that you can sit back, relax and enjoy your life.
Really stop to look at things. If you are at the beach, do you really stop to look at the beauty that is surrounding you? Do you really look at and admire the ocean and it's white crisp waves crashing along the shoreline? Do you listen to the sounds that surround you? Take every positive thing in that is going on around you. For example, really listen to the sounds of children laughing and playing in the sand, the sound of the ocean and the sound of birds flying overhead. Look intently at the waves and the way that the rays of the sun can make the water look like it's sparkling. Really enjoy what you see and learn to appreciate it.
Appreciate the little things that people do for you in your life. If you are driving and someone let's you go first at a stop sign, put your hand up to signal a 'thank you' to that person. If people do small things and gestures that make your life a little easier, always make sure to thank them and tell them how they've helped you. Show them your appreciation. Then think about how good it made you feel.
Read quotes that make you feel good about life. If you read quotes on inspiration, gratitude, positivity and joy you will learn in some of those quotes that it is the little things in life that can really mean a lot.
Spend time with people that you love and care about. Kiss them, hug them, show your affection towards the people you love. Do nice little things for the people in your life. Enjoy their company. Get together with friends and family that you haven't seen in awhile. It will help you to appreciate the relationships you have in your life.
Don't get too involved with material items and technology. If you are spending too much time in front of your big screen television all day, stop and do something else. Ask your spouse if he/she wants to go on a date. Get your children together and play a board game with them. Go outside and go for a walk and enjoy nature.
If you have a pet, some spend time with it. Go for a longer walk with your dog, play with your cat or stop and watch the fish in your fish tank. Sometimes pets can be overlooked when someone lives a busy lifestyle, so take a few moments to appreciate your pet.
Like I said before, do nice little things for others. They will most likely appreciate you and you will feel the good feeling that comes with being appreciated. It's just those little things in life that can make you sit back and smile and think that life is meant to be appreciated.
