Very good advice here. Speaking to the landlord is far better than avoiding him or her. Thankfully I've always been able to pay on time. Unfortunately he hasn't always solved problems around here in a timely manner. In an effort to save money he's made simple fixes an all-day project that was too painful to watch. I hope to own a home next summer. Renting definitely has its downfalls - especially when the landperson is incredibly tight.

Having been chronic renters for many years before we were able to buy a home (after our daughter finished college!), we appreciated how very important our relationship with our landlords were. We played our part by being responsible and respectful and expected/hoped they would play theirs by taking care of things and allowing us some slack from time to time when times were hard.
