How to Approach Valentine's Day in an Early Relationship
Are You Wondering How to Go About Your Valentine's Day Plans
Whether you're looking for a serious relationship and you don't want to come off too intense fearing to scare the other person off, or you're more interested in something with no strings attached and you don't want to send confusing signals, keeping Valentine's Day light and easy is key to ensure a good time.
If you're not really sure about how you feel about the relationship altogether, avoid any disastrous situation by making plans of other sort or conveniently going out of town on Valentine's. Not really the best idea but if pressure gets overwhelming this is an option.
If you do decide to go out, be cautious where you take your date. Candlelit tables, chocolate fondue, and men all over proposing in every direction you look, can make the whole experience very awkward. Choose wisely and according to how your relationship is and where you want to take it.
Keep the Valentine's buzz words away from your conversation. Using terms like love, wedding plans, babies, or even prenup can quickly lead to a rather uncomfortable moment. Don't mention anything like this unless you mean it and it's real in your heart.
Comedy is always a great way to approach any uncomfortable and awkward moments, don't overdo it though, you don't want to make yourself look like a clown. Making silly comments of over-the-top Valentine's traditions can also help release the pressure and allow you to overcome the stereotype of what the holiday should be, consequently you'll end up having a great time.
Don't go all out overspending. An over the top extravagant gift or dinner can send the wrong message. Also, avoid the typical cliches that are expected. You can still show that you care by being thoughtful and personal.
If you're a man never give your Valentine a present that's wrapped in anything that resembles a ring box. Do it only if you are indeed giving a diamond ring.
If you have a hard time coping with the idea of having a one-on-one date, invite a friend with their date. Hit the town as a foursome for a casual night out. A group dynamic is always fun and helps ease tension.
