How to Aquire Your Own Quiver of Surfboards

Rik Rodriguez
When I first became a surfer I thought that I would only need one surfboard. But as I became more experienced I realized that I could always use extra surfboards. Maybe your friend wants to come along and doesn't have a surfboard. Certainly when I first started surfing I never dreamed that I would want to use different surfboards for different waves and conditions. Also I like to keep several decent surfboards around in case I break one of my surfboards I always want a spare.

But the challenge seemed to always be acquiring surfboards at a good price and ones that were in good shape. Of course you will want to find surfboards that you can actually use. It doesn't pay to own a surfboard that you cant surf on. Or one that isn't suited for your surf break. If I know that I am going to be surfing a break pretty consistently I will look for surfboards that I know will work at that break. I look for 3 basic boards. One for average days, one for blown out days and one for big days.

There are plenty or on line services that sell surfboards in most areas where surfers live. I purchase many of my surfboards on the beach. I like to watch how a surfboard handles before I buy it. If you order a custom made surfboard you will not have a chance to ride it or see how it performs before you pay for it. So that is one of the big advantages to buying a surfboard from another surfer that has been riding it at your home break. I have also advertised on bulletins boards and visited plenty of garage sales to find great deals on used and new surfboards. But I really like buying them on the beach.

You can see how you would have a great advantage in the water if you were to buy a surfboard that worked really well at your surf break. It doesn't take loads of money to own a few surfboards. Owning several surfboards is a great way to improve your surfing.

Surfing on different surfboards can teach you what you really need in a surfboard. It can help you become more aware of your strengths and weaknesses in surfing. Even after many years of surfing all over the world I am always trying to improve my surfing. Find purpose in your surfing. Surfing is fun and you can get in great shape. Surfing has its own meaning to each and ever surfer. Find your own purpose and always respect the ocean.
