Cheryl Dennett
Arnica has been widely used in both herbal and homeopathic medicine. It has lovely yellow flowers and is a good remedy for aches of many types. Other common names for this herb are leopardsbane, wolfsbane, common arnica, mountain arnica, mountain tobacco, arnica root, and arnika. Here are some types to help you safely use arnica as a natural herbal remedy.

The herb arnica is a perennial. It can mainly be found in Canada, the northern US, and Europe in mountainous areas. It flowers from June to August.

The main part of arnica that is used for remedies is the flower. It is an effective analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and would healer. It is most effective if it is used in the form of lotions, creams, or ointments. A poultice applied as a compress to the stomach can also help with abdominal pains. Be sure not to use a full strength of this herb. It should always be diluted to be sure of safety. It is best if you purchase professionally prepared versions of this remedy to ensure safety.

Arnica is effective as a natural remedy to ease the pain of bruises, sprains, and sports injuries. It can be used as an external diluted wash for these types of ailments. It is also very good to use to help heal wounds following surgeries or dental treatments. However, it should not be ingested. It should be used with care and under the supervision of a health professional.

It is possible arnica will cause damage to the heart, liver and kidneys if taken internally. It should also not be applied directly to an open wound or broken skin. If you have sensitive skin do not apply this remedy in its full strength to your skin. It should be extremely diluted in some manner. If it is used for an extended length of time, you may develop a sensitivity to the herb. Do not use this herbal remedy if you are pregnant.

Using natural remedies can help a person feel more in control of their health regimen. However, do not begin taking any medications without first consulting a doctor or pharmacist or some type of medical professional. Herbal remedies are made up of chemicals, just like prescription drugs. These chemicals can interact with medications you are already taking for other conditions. Hopefully, these tips will help you use arnica as a natural remedy in a safe and healthy manner.
