How to Get Around an Internet Forum Ban

Zac Linzmeier
If you have been banned an on Internet forum, whether at fault or not, there are often times very good reasons why you need to at least be able to view pages that are up. Perhaps you were engaged in a conversation with a friend and need their contact details or were conducting business there. Whatever the case a forum ban makes it so you cannot even view threads or posts. This is a very simply tutorial on how to get around a forum ban and get access as a clean and new user.

First of all you need to understand how the forum bans you, this is done via three independent elements which are:

1. Your account, obviously. You will need to first visit the forum and log out of your account, if you are using a vBulletin forum this step is not necessary and will be taken care of when you clear your cookies.

2. IP address. An IP address is a unique address, much like your street address, that is used to identify your Internet connection. You will have to change your IP address and never again access this forum on your current IP address.

3. Cookies. Cookies are identifying markers sent to your browser and stored on your computer. Websites are able to access these cookies and pull information off of them, in this case your old account information and the fact that you were banned.

The first thing that you need to do is clear all of your cookies. This is done from settings or options, depending on your browser, inside of your browser itself. Be sure not to visit the forum after doing this just yet.

Next up you will need a new IP address. If you have a DSL connection or dial-up simple unplug your modem, wait about 30 seconds and then plug it back in. You will be automatically assigned a brand new IP address. If you have a cable modem this is not an option but you are able to 'spoof' your IP address by using proxies. Google the search term 'TOR' and install this free proxy changer software, it will do the trick. In addition you can Google 'web based proxy' and access pages on a fake IP address for that session only.

Now, with your spoofed IP address and clear cookies head back to the forum and create a new account on a new e-mail address.

You have now successfully got around an Internet forum ban and are able to navigate and interact with the forum just as if you are a brand new user, which is exactly how you will appear to the forum.
