How to Arrange a Valentine's Day Gift Basket

Many florists offer gift baskets as some of the gifts in their stores. But these gift baskets often have only a small amount of things that are actually enjoyable and they carry a very hefty price tag. But using these simple steps, you will be able to make your own gift basket that has only the best items, at a fraction of the price. Here are the instructions for creating your own Valentine's Day gift basket.

First, you will need to decide what type of things you want to include in the gift basket. Cookies and candies are always a popular choice, but use your knowledge of the person to create something special. Women may want a bath set and men might enjoy a movie/popcorn combo basket. Think of different things that they enjoy. If you decide to do a candy basket, put in some of their favorite chocolates, cookies, and candies. If you are building a bath set basket, roll a towel and place it along the back. Add their favorite bath products, all in the same scent, and finish it with a pillar candle. For a movie basket, include one to three of their favorite movies, some microwave popcorn, and some theater sized candies.

Next, you will need the other supplies. Not only do you need a basket, but you also need ribbon, florists foam, and large sheets of cellophane. When choosing a basket, make sure to get one without a handle. This can get in the way and take up some much needed space. At the very least, it will make the arranging more difficult. Also, do not be afraid to use a bucket or even a large serving bowl. Be forewarned that the bowl will make for a very pretty arrangement, but it will also be extremely heavy. For this type, it is better to have it already sitting on a table where they can open it, rather than trying to hand it to them.

To arrange the items, place a chunk of florists foam in the bottom so that it builds it up taller and makes it more noticeable. If you find that something is too tall, you can cut away the foam from that area with a sharp knife. That will let you sink it down lower so that it makes a more uniform arrangement. Then, gather everything you purchased and place it in an order that makes sense. If the basket has one side that is very obviously the front, you will want to arrange things so that they get taller towards the back of the basket. If you have a basket that is round or square, you can use one of two options. First, you can pick a side of the basket to use as the front, and decorate with the larger items in the back. Second, you can build the basket in a pyramid fashion so that each side offers something interesting. The second method is preferred because it provides a beautiful arrangement no matter which angle they open it from. If this is the method you use, place the tallest items in the middle. Spread the items out so that each one stands out and is easily noticed. Finally, move the basket onto the middle of the sheet of cellophane. Gather the cellophane near the top and tie it closed with a ribbon.
