How I Use Associated Content as a Subject Tool

Using Article Hits as a Barometer

My writing career started over 10 years ago writing for a couple of fishing magazines. Seeing my name in print was nice but I had no idea how many people actually read them. Four years ago I wrote my first book and I am able to track the monthly sales. Now that I have returned to college to finish a degree in journalism I am taking writing a little more seriously.

Finding the audience for whatever you write is a great help in guiding toward what you write. I like Associated Content because I am able to write on a varied range of subjects and track the interest. This is a great help and has surprised me as to the ones who get steady hits and led me to write material I would not have. This allows me to test different areas in which I hope to use for bigger projects.

Guitar gear has been an enjoyable hobby for me, yet I was surprised to have so many hits in the niche. Vintage equipment born before the net seems to have an audience but lacks information. This is also fun as it exposes musicians to instruments and gear that may not have known about. Sometimes it's like helping out the island of misfit guitars.

The point being I would not have written much about a subject I enjoy had I not seen the interest in the area. It is also good to find subjects that are easy and don't inflame opinions and hurt feelings. Though it could be said that guitars and amps can do that, it isn't a lasting damage if someone doesn't agree.

If you are serious about writing, using Associated Content can keep you doing it and getting better. The barometer of subject matter is more invaluable to me than the payments though. Before writing for Associated Content my view of what I felt comfortable writing was much narrower. This could help any writer to be able to take small forays into subjects and use different techniques.

As a guitarist I am able to change sounds or styles to keep things fresh. Changing subjects helps me to come back to my primary subjects and write better. Guidance by interest is a great way to find what you are good at, and AC provides the statistics for free. Years ago when writing for print I couldn't even buy that kind of information.
