How to Make Associated Content a Full-Time Career

Mrs.Gossett
If you are a writer like myself, the idea of being able to publish helpful articles and make a full time living seems to good to be true. The amazing thing, is that it isn't. You really can make a full time living doing what you love to do. The sky is the limit. You can get paid for as many high quality, original pieces you feel driven to produce. I have learned so much in my short time of writing for Associated Content, and I would love to make it easier for you. That after all is the point of this community. Support.

*What I have learned*

1) It takes dedication! If you are going to make it as a writer employed by any means, you will have to be dedicated. Inspiration will get you by for about 2 days. After that, it takes a realistic picture of what you would be doing otherwise. If you do not want to write an article about installing doors, fine. Get dressed up, put an obscene amount of gas in your car, leave your kids, and work all day at a job you hate. With me now? Good. You will have to remember these things when your fingers hurt and you can't even think about writing another article.

2) You must set hours. You will have to set aside certain times during the day to write. If you do at your own leisure you will produce much less content and feel like you have worked all day. The best way I have found to accomplish this is to get up an hour before my kids get up. I can usually write about 3 articles in this hour. I spend about 3 hours with my girls and eat breakfast with them. I then use morning nap time to write 2 more articles. When the kids get up, we play until lunch. In the late afternoon, they usually nap again for about an hour. This is when I do 3 more articles. When they wake up, it is usually the time that I tell them mommy has to work for a little while. I get them started on an activity in full view of me. My older girls keep the younger ones entertained while I work all the way up until dinner. This allows me to write my final 10 articles of the day. This gives me the entire evening to spend with my husband and relax. If you do not have kids, or do not have to write as much, this will be a lot easier for you. I just wanted to show you that it can be done. You can stay at home with you kids, work, and still have a life.

3) Get Inspired. To keep you creative writer's uses flowing, you must write sometimes just for the sheer passion of it. It will not sustain you to only write how to guides. You need to publish rants and opinion pieces. Publish Poetry. Publish things that tug at your heart. It matters not if you get an upfront offer for everything that you produce. There will be times when you need to simply show your soul. Do it.

4) You will learn how to take rejection. Gently. Associated Content does not publish every single thing that you hand them. This is a good thing. It makes you have to be the caliber of writer that you can be anyway. It allows you a gentle rebuke that reminds you to not get tired and turn in a bunch of crap. They are, however, wonderful about giving you a chance to still collect performance payments and edit your piece for resubmission.

5) You will gain strength from other writers. I have gotten such an overwhelming amount of support from other content producers. This is a loving community. We work together to help new and unsure writers succeed. If you have any questions at all, please contact me. Thank you to all of the other talented content producers. Leaving nice comments and messages build us up at times of frustration. I have the best job, nicest co workers, and best location - home.

Thank you so much for this article. With 4 girls being homeschooled (ages 6, 5, 3, 2) I find it hard to stay motivated to write articles. Will keep this in mind!!!!

I try to practice this, its hard to stay focused with kids running around yelling "Mommy" all day.

40 articles total, and all within about a month's time tells me what you stated in this article was more well-intended than practiced. But hey, AC's a rat-on-the-wheel thing anyway. So, it's understandable.

My kids don't let me have regular hours yet! Soon, I hope. I'm one of those people who forgets to eat or get dressed. I hear people are more productive if they get dressed in the morning.

This is an encouraging article. That's a good idea to get up an hour early and write during nap time.
