How Attending Back-to-School Night Can Help Your Kids Have a Better School Year

Mrs. Renee

Just about all schools have some sort of back to school night. This is usually the time of year that many parents take the time to get to know the teacher; their child will have, and see some of the curriculum. Unfortunately some parent's don't see the benefits of back to school night, so they don't make time for it in their schedule. Attending back to school night however can really start your kids off right for the school year. Below are a few ways that show how much children can benefit from their parent's sacrificing one night at the beginning of the year.

It shows you care

The first thing that kids will see, is that their parents care enough to be their in the first. Some parent's may not think that it is that big of a deal if they don't go, but it help's your kids see that school is important. Remember that if parents treat school as if it is important than so will their children. Helping children to see the importance of learning is best done by setting a good example. Not only does it show your child that you care, but it also show's the teacher that you want to be an involved parent.

Help them know the rules

One of the biggest reasons, why teachers have a difficult time, at the beginning of the school year, is due to kids not following the rules. If each parent goes to back to school night, they will get to see what the rules are themselves, and then they can help their children learn. This will get your child off to a good start with your child's teacher.

Guide them through the year

Being able to guide your child through the school year is a great way to make sure they benefit fully from what they are learning. When you visit during back to school night, be sure to take plenty of notes, and ask for copies of the curriculum. This is really a good way of keeping track of what your child is learning during the school year, and helping them along the way. Some parents even get workbooks that go along with what the curriculum says, so that they can give kids extra practice when needed.

Address any fears your children have

Back to school night is also the time to address any fears that may be causing your child some anxiety about going back to school. If they are worried about the curriculum being too tough perhaps allowing them to meet the teacher may help. Or if they are nervous about the new teacher, meeting them may also help to alleviate some fears as well.
