How to Attract and Hold onto a Talented Staff

Do you want to have a talented staff that is loyal to you? If so, it is up to you to make it happen. You will learn how to attract and retain talented employees.

The first step to attracting talented employees is to advertise in a smart way. What you need to do is make sure that you lure the best applicants. A great way to make this happen is to run an effective help-wanted ad that describes all or most of the qualifications you are looking for while specifying that only those who meet them need apply.

The second step is to convince the best candidates that it is worth their while to work for you. The first way you can do it is to pay them a high wage, especially if the position you are offering requires a lot of skill or education. The second is to offer a good benefits package. The third is to provide a great opportunity for them to put their skills and education to good use.

The third step is to have a good reputation. It would be helpful to have a high company satisfaction ranking. Many workers want to work at a firm that has a good reputation for being a great place to work.

The fourth step is to be flexible in regard to scheduling. Providing flexible hours and telecommuting privileges can work to your advantage. Many workers need to work a certain schedule or spend part of the week working at home in order to go to school, take care of things at home, etc.

The fifth step is to be sensitive to family and educational needs. One thing that would be helpful is to let the applicants know they will be able to clock out early or take the day off anytime they need to care for a family member or attend a family member's special event. Another is to offer to pay for their college tuition as long as they remain on your payroll.

The first step to retaining talented employees is to compensate them fairly. If they are making a positive impact on your bottom line, you must award them accordingly with a substantial raise. You should also offer those who excel a promotion.

The second step is to refrain from treating them like a number. The first way you can do it is to praise them for their success. The second is to get them involved in everything the managers do, including ordering pizza. The third is to avoid looking over their shoulders and micromanaging them.

The third step is to be honorable. The first way you can do it is to honor all promises you make. The second is to always treat your staff with respect.

Follow these steps to attract and maintain a talented staff!
