How to Audition for American Idol Online Using MySpace

Blair Mathis
If you've always wanted to audition on American Idol for your shot of fame, but can't afford to fly to the nearest audition studio, fret no more. American Idol is now accepting online auditions via MySpace. If you want to audition for American Idol online, simply visit their MySpace page and upload your video.

Does this sound too good to be true? There are a few stipulations. You must sing one of the preselected songs from the online audition list, and your audition video can be no longer than 40 seconds in length, which is quite generous when compared to how short some in-person American Idol auditions can be.

How to Audition

Visit "MySpace.com/AmericanIdol" and click the "Audition" button. Enter your contact agreement (make sure you give the correct info!), then agree to the Terms and Conditions. After that point, you will be able to view the specific details, such as song options, and then upload your video.

Tips

- You don't want to blow your one shot at making American Idol, so make sure you record your video with as clear of audio as possible. If you camcorder or camera has an "External Microphone" port, purchase a high-end microphone and use that to record audio instead of using your camera's integrated microphone.

- Place your camera on a flat surface or use a tripod. If your only recording option is a cell phone or laptop camera, make sure you perform your audition in a clean, silent room that is free of distractions and external noises. Replay your video and listen carefully for any distortions or other problems. Redo as many times as necessary to get the best quality possible.

- Double-check the information you add to the American Idol Online Audition page - you don't want to them to have the wrong info on hand and end up with no way to contact you.
