How to Have the Audrey Hepburn Look and Style

Holly Golightly Can Teach All of Us Something About How to Find Our Own Breakfast at Tiffany's Style

If ever there was a Hollywood princess, Audrey Hepburn was the real deal. She graced the movie screen with an easy elegance that belied her humble beginnings and became a style model for millions of young women who yearned to acquire the, "Audrey Hepburn" look. It's a look that is timeless and classic but can be duplicated and worn just as easily today as fifty years ago. Picture Audrey as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Start the look by getting the right makeup. Audrey Hepburn always looked fresh and natural with emphasis on those incredible eyes. You can check out a video tutorial of Holly Golightly's make up here, where you can learn how to recreate the perfect Audrey Hepburn makeup style. A pale makeup with focused color on the lips and dark eyes emphasized with thick fake eyelashes and heavy eyeliner is key to the Audrey Hepburn style.

Audrey Hepburn was a small slip of a woman in an age when curves where the big draw and Marilyn Monroe was every man's perfect woman. Instead of trying to be a sexy pin-up girl, Audrey focused on her own strengths and developed a style that played up those features.

When you think of the simple clothing elements she chose though, all of them are readily available these days and a combination of them will transform you into your own version of Audrey Hepburn's style.

First of all you have to find the perfect LBD...Little Black Dress. If you can sew, you can make your own using a Vogue pattern V2481 or Simplicity 2552, complete with a overcoat. If sewing isn't your thing, Delias Store on Ebay has a similar dress for 34.50 that would offer the same effect.

Complete the Audrey Hepburn LBD look by adding a large floppy black hat with large silk black bow or a up sweep hairdo and perch a tiara on it for special occasions. Wearing a tiara is not something all women can pull off, but don't we all want to?! Here is a link for how to do the classic Hepburn updo. You can find the perfect tiara at Tiaratown to top off the look. You'll feel like Breakfast at Tiffany's or My Fair Lady at the ball!

For a more casual Audrey Hepburn look, purchase a pair of skinny black pants, top it with a long sleeve black knit sweater, slip on a pair of ballet flats, and find a big pair of sunglasses for lunch out on the town. Throw a Trench coat on and cinch the belt tight, turn the collar up for a complete out to lunch outfit that will declare you are a bona fide member of the Audrey Hepburn fan club. Grab a headband and pull your hair straight back in a bob; or get a pixie cut if you're a diehard "wanna look like Audrey" fan.

Audrey Hepburn made many of these elements her signature style. When we see someone dressed in that fashion, we immediately think of Audrey Hepburn. To follow her lead in fashion, what is your signature? Choose something that you love to wear, that makes you feel stylish and make it your signature. Perhaps it's a long sleeve white shirt with turned up collar, or a tunic that moves from one pair of pants to a long skirt easily and removes 10 lbs. from your body. Maybe your signature is wearing a deep purple color in various elements or pieces to give your own style to your wardrobe.

You know when you look good, what color makes your eyes pop or what style of blouse or dress makes you look thin. Find your own signature and use it in different unique ways. If Audrey Hepburn did anything for women and their fashion style, she taught us to be unique, not follow the trend, but to find clothing and styles that fit us and made us happy to wear them.
