How To Use Auto Tune to Get the T.Pain Effect
The T.Pain Effect
So how does Auto Tune work ? Well you first must have a recording program such as Pro Tools, Acid Pro, or whatever program you choose to record with. Auto Tune is not a program but simply a plug in that you basically use inside your program. Lets say you were singing out of tune and off pitch. Auto Tune is going to correct this for you. The more you are off pitch then the more Auto Tune works and adds effect to your voice.
You have the basis of what Auto Tune is so lets show you how to get the T.Pain effect.
1. Open your recording program
2. Go into your plug-ins and find Auto Tune and open it. Where it will be at depends on your program. You may want to look through the list of your plug ins for Auto Tune. The reason you are opening Auto Tune before you lay your vocals down is because you want to record through the plug in live instead of adding the Auto Tune effect afterwards. You can add it afterward but if you record through it then you can control your pitch more.
3. Now that you have your recording program open and Auto Tune up its time to set your settings in the Auto Tune. You can play around with this and add whatever you want but the T.Pain effect is a popular choice. Now this isn't going to make you sound like T.Pain because it will still be your voice but it will be the same effect.
Here are the settings you want to change. You Do Not have to change anything else.
Key - C
Scale - Major
Retune - 0
Tracking - 75
Rate - 0.1
Variation - 0
Onset Delay - 0
Onset Rate - 0
Pitch - 0
Amplitude - 30
Formant - 100
