How to Make an Autumn Lover's Gift Basket

Lisa Riggs
Most people have a favorite season of the year. It is often the time of year that is the backdrop of their most cherished memories, or simply a time of year that they generally have the most fun with family and friends. Many people count the warmer seasons of the year, such as Spring and Summer, as their favorite, while a few enjoy the peaceful and slower pace of Winter. Others count Autumn as the season they enjoy the most and look forward to all year. This article will offer several suggestions on how you can craft a fun and festive gift basket for that special Autumn lover in your life.

Autumn Gift Basket Choices. One of the most important decisions to be made at the onset of crafting a gift basket is to decide what type of container will be used. The standard wicker basket is always a great choice, taking the amount of items that will be included, into consideration. There are scads of items to choose from, however, including a wicker laundry basket, galvanized tub, over sized canvas tote bag, unique and interesting gardening containers such as decorative barrels and window boxes, and even an over sized handbag. The type and shape of the gift basket items can also help you to decide on what receptacle you would like them to be held and presented in. Keep in mind that if the gift "basket" can be reused in a practical way, it makes the entire gift just a little more special and memorable.

Autumn Gift Basket Filler: Once you have your choice of gift basket narrowed down, you can then think about what you would like to use as a filler to lay your gifts on. Ideally, it should be a soft and somewhat flexible material so that the gifts are nestled in the filler, and will be protected during the transport and delivery. In keeping with the theme of the basket, a pile of decorative Fall leaves or a cozy fleece sweatshirt make excellent gift basket fillers. The leaves can be reused by the gift recipient when decorating for the season, and the sweatshirt can be used on those chilly Fall nights. Again, making every part of the gift a unique gift all on it's own truly makes it a one of a kind gift.

Autumn Gift Basket Items: The most enjoyable part of creating a handmade gift basket, is of course, the selecting of basket items. For that Autumn lover in your life, consider adding one or all of the following items: Fall bulbs for planting along with small gardening tools, Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations to represent Autumn's most popular holidays, popcorn, cranberries, and a needle and thread so the gift recipient can get started on making a traditional Christmas garland, gourmet coffee, tea, or cocoa to enjoy on a nippy Autumn evening, the newest hardcover bestseller to dig into on a Fall afternoon, cozy socks to ward off that late season chill and a few necessary fireplace or wood stove essentials such as fire starter sticks, for those first days when the house could use a little Fall coziness.

Autumn Gift Basket Extras: Once your gift basket is filled and arranged to satisfaction, some raffia ribbon and a gingham style ribbon wrapped around the basket will give it a nice country flair. Add a personalized note card wishing the recipient a happy and healthy Fall, as they enjoy their favorite season of the year.
