How to Avoid Costly Mistakes with Your Cell Phone Choices

Lance Esondi
Many people need and enjoy having a cell phone today. They are convenient and are a great way of staying in touch with the world. When you are shopping for a phone, you want to make sure you get the right type and avoid making common mistakes that can end up costing you in the end.

The first mistake made is buying the wrong type of phone for your needs. While you might like a certain model and its features, you need to make sure it has what you really need. If you need a phone that has all-day battery life from the moment you get out of bed until you go back to sleep, you might have to cut back on features and find a phone that works for you. Know what you need and get that first or else it won't work out for you.

Don't buy a phone just based on its reviews. Try it out on your own first. Sometimes you might notice that the screen text is too small, the keys might not react right or you might not like the size or weight of the phone. This is tough to figure out on pictures alone. Touching the phone lets you know if it's the right one or not.

While you might like a certain brand of phone, the carrier might be awful in your area. Try to read customer reviews on the carrier in your area so you don't make the mistake of getting a plan with a carrier that is not reliable in your area. Even worse is getting bad reception in your home or apartment.

Don't get the wrong plan. Get a plan that actually fits your needs. Get minutes, texts and data a little above and beyond what you are used to using just so you don't go over. Some plans offer things like rollover minutes or other features to help you on months that you might need to be using the phone a bit more. The right plan should protect you from extra costs.
