How to Avoid Gaining Weight This Thanksgiving
3 Tips to Keep Your Diet on the Right Track Over the Holidays
enjoy the feast and be happy, right? Trust me, I get it, I've been there (every year). However as soon as the holiday ends, you will start complaining because you packed on a few pounds over the break and they aren't coming off quite as easily as they were put on. Right? Yep, I've been there too. What if we could do things different this year, though? Still enjoy all of the great food at Thanksgiving, but not have to deal with the extra weight that will just bog us down throughout the rest of the year. Sounds nice, right? I thought so. So I did some thinking, and came up with 3 tips that will help us all to avoid gaining weight this Thanksgiving and keep our diet on the right track.
1- Avoid Snacking
There's so much food just sitting around over Thanksgiving- whether it be turkey, side dishes, desserts, rolls, or whatever you fancy, it's easy to get off track and start grabbing a little of this and a little of that as you walk through the kitchen. Don't do that this year though- tell yourself to wait until it's time for the meal, and then you will actually be able to enjoy it and not feel sick at supper time because you stuffed your face all day long.
2-Control Your Portions
Yes, it's Thanksgiving, and it's easy to go overboard when you see all of the great food sitting out on the counter or around the dinner table. You just want to pile double servings of everything on your plate and stuff your face because that's what you're supposed to do at Thanksgiving, isn't it? No. We should be thankful that we have the opportunity to enjoy all of that great food, but just gorging it down is not going to do us any good. So practice portion control- if you want to try everything, great, but take a smaller size of it instead of double. You'll feel better for it later.
3- Take a Walk
So you just had your big Thanksgiving meal and you're sitting around with the family talking about how full you are and how amazing the food was. Then you spend the day laying around talking about how sick you feel from eating so much, or you take a nap to avoid any type of movement. Change it up this Thanksgiving and go outside for a walk. This can be a great way to spend time with your family, talking as you walk and enjoying the outdoors. It puts things into perspective for you and gives you something to be thankful for. It will also make you feel better because you are burning off a little bit of what you just ate!
