Sweet breads
Some people also process uric acid/ purine very efficiently, while others to develop problems from consuming too much. The reason why this happens is unknown, but there is a theory that the link may be genetic.
If you suffer from any type of digestive disorders like heart burn, gout, or irritable bowel syndrome avoid foods with uric acid. Sweet breads infused with butter, honey, or other sugars contain a high amount of uric acid. The starch combined with the uric acid can have a painful effect on someone with a sensitive stomach. Avoid eating bread that has any sweeteners added to it. If you like bread choose sprouted bread or a gluten-free variety.
Yeast
Yeast is something that is packed into so many processed foods, baked goods, and bread. People who suffer from heart burn or other issues should avoid yeast products like the plague. However, there are certain types of supplemental yeast formulated in such a way that does not cause stomach problems. Brewers yeast is a particular dietary supplement that is actually very healthy and beneficial. This type of yeast is okay for people with heart burn to consume because brewers yeast contains high levels of b-vitamins which balance out the uric acid.
Herring
Herring is a type of fish that contains high levels of uric acid/ purine. If you like fish, but can not have uric acid choose salmon, halibut, or trout. Avoid other fish products that are processed such as fish sticks or other frozen seafood dishes. If you must have herring take digestive enzymes with your meal.
Mussels
Mussels are a type of seafood that contain high levels of uric acid/ purine. Some people consider mussels to be a delicacy while others feel as though muscles are unclean foods. This type of sea creature feeds off of waste and other acidic materials. Mussels are not a healthy food and if you suffer from digestive problems you should avoid them altogether.
Sardines
Sardines are those little fish that are packed inside a miniature can. People tend to serve them at parties or other social events. Yet, these tiny little fish contain very high levels of uric acid making heartburn more likely. If you like sardines limit your consumption to only one or two on special occasions.
Meats
Certain meats such as rabbit, liver, pork, processed turkey, hot dogs and other processed meats contain uric acid. If you have heartburn, poor digestion, or stomach upset you should limit your meat intake. Avoid all processed meats such as the ones listed, and only eat small quantities of lean meats with low purine such as Buffalo and chicken.
However, you can also avoid meat all together and eat vegetable based protein such as beans, or peas. Spirulina is a sea vegetable containing high levels of protein that is also a good choice.
Dairy
Dairy products such as milk, cheese, and eggs all contain high levels of uric acid/ purine. If you love dairy foods, but yet suffer from gout or other stomach issues, choose raw dairy foods instead. Raw cow's milk and cheese contain enzymes that balance out uric acid making raw foods more digestible. Raw cheese and milk are perfectly safe for consumption when they are made from a clean organic dairy. However, you cannot eat eggs raw due to the risk of salmonella poisoning.
