If you have to relocate to a new home, and are going to be involved with heavy lifting, then you know that one of the worst things that can happen to you during the moving process is to incur an injury. In order to prevent such an injury, just follow these basic tips.

The first thing you want to do before any kind of physical activity is know your limits. before you go ahead and lift that bookcase by yourself, know and understand what your limits are. It is always best to have someone help you carry any kind of heavy or bulky items. Even if you think you can lift it on your own, a helping hand rarely causes problems.

Once you understand your limits, and you have an idea of the things you are going to be lifting and moving you want to check into doing some basic stretching. Stretching before picking up anything is a great way to get your blood flowing, and your body into a more limber, moveable state. Stretching can often make a move go allot smoother, simply because people can move better after they have properly limbered up.

Since it is common during a move to lift the heaviest items first, be wary of the difficulties when trying to control the items you are carrying. Sometimes dressers, and old armoires can be top heavy, and unruly when trying to move out to an open area, so make sure that you have control over the item before you start going. Also, before you move anything you think will cause problems, create a path of travel from where the item is to where it needs to go. Make sure to check off any step downs or differences in height along the path.

A side measure that can be taken, that can often help out in tight situations is to make measurements of doorways and the height of items so you are not banging the tops of the items on the door frame, and you don't risk breaking something that could fall down on you. As a safety precaution, be sure to wear protective gloves when dealing with heavier items that can cut into your skin, and if you are moving in a larger house, a helmet can protect you in the chance that something falls from the second story down to the first.

Overall as long as you take precautionary preemptive measures, and make sure to have plenty of help you can avoid injuries when relocating to a new home.
