How to Avoid Overeating During the Holidays

It can be hard not to overindulge during the holidays. Between Thanksgiving and New Years, with the major holidays that are often filled with fattening foods, and all the parties that go along with them, you can increase your intake of calories by quite a bit.

But you can succeed in not over consuming with a few simple ideas.

Make a Decision

It really is that simple. Decide not to overindulge, and if you've really made this choice, you will probably succeed.

What you put in your mouth is completely up to you. You choose what goes in, no one can do that for you.

Thus there is no one else to blame, and no one else to take the responsibility. Make the decision to maintain self control, and the first step is over.

Now you at least have a chance! Don't give in to the self-sabotage of "It's ok to pig out, it's a holiday!" It's never ok to pig out. It shows a lack of self control.

Try Everything!

I know, this idea seems counter-productive, but it really isn't.

This is what I mean: TRY everything that looks good. Just don't eat a full portion of everything you try. A few small bites of any particular thing isn't going to get you fat. J

just stick to a little bit of it, for the taste. Once you've had a certain amount of any particular thing, it begins to lose it's special-ness anyway. You can get a better effect with one piece of fudge that with five.

Eat Healthy the Rest of the Time

Between holidays and parties, eat especially healthy, with plenty of whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins.

Make up for all the extra-fattening party fare when you aren't partying, and you will balance it out. Another thing you might want to think about is to chose healthier drinks, like water, instead of alcoholic or rich beverages.
