If you are like most people, the first thing you do whenever you are faced with large project or piece of work that needs to be completed, is you begin to moan and complain about how hard it is going to be to complete. Well, that complaining begins to develop into avoiding the project, and ultimately putting it off until the last minute. This occurrence of putting of a project as long as possible is so common that it has a name all to itself, procrastination.

Procrastination is one of the worst habits that you can pick up on, especially if you work in a field that has set time limits for work to be done. The best thing you can do to avoid procrastination and develop good work habits is to analyze the project. Take a look at all the bits and pieces that need to completed, and try to divide the large project into smaller ones. Once you have a project divided into smaller parts it looks a lot less intimidating. You can begin setting time limits on the smaller projects and setting dates of completion to help map out your plan of action. This method is the most commonly used tool to help you avoid procrastination, but there are others.

Besides dividing a larger project into smaller bits and pieces you can try these other methods to help you avoid procrastination. Other methods include setting a reward for yourself once a project is completed. That way you have a goal to reach for during the difficult parts of the project. Another method is to just drop down and do it. Starting is often the most difficult step of a project, because once you start you can get yourself on a roll to completing the project on time. As a last method of avoiding procrastination you can look out to others to help motivate you. It may seem a little selfish, and arbitrary, but getting one of your buddies to constantly pester and remind you of the project and its completion can often lead to you working on getting it done.

Overall procrastination is a delaying habit that can string out a week long project to many months, but with determination and followance of these methods you can avoid procrastination and get your work done on time every time.
