How to Avoid Sabotaging Your Career

Jordan Smith
One way to avoid sabotaging your career is not to become complacence. This is one of the main ways you can hurt your career. Now that you were fortunate enough to get the position, never become satisfied in that position. By landing the job you have just placed your foot in the door.

After you have mastered that position it is time to move higher. The last thing you want to do is too become stuck. You must always be reinventing yourself. Never become satisfy with where you are. When you become stagnated and not growing with the company needs they will consider you to be a liability and not an asset.

If you need to improve your skills enroll in some classes after work. Ask your supervisor it they can arrange for the company to send you on some seminars that would benefit the department. Always look for ways to enhance and expand your skills. In other words make yourself available to benefit your company.

If you have been chosen to take on a special project it is very important that you complete it on time. If for some reason beyond your control you are unable to finish the project give your supervisor plenty of time to either reassign the project or get you some more help.

Always take responsibility for your own actions. If you make a mistake be man enough or woman enough to admit it. It takes a strong person to say that I made a mistake and I will fix it.

Make sure that you dress appropriately for the workplace. If you work in a office setting, you should wear attire that is fitting for the office and not attire that is fit for the beach. When you take pride in yourself and your work other will also.

The work place is not a social club. It is not a place for you to gossip and to recite your whole life story. Remember you have been hired to do a job.

Watch who you hang around with. Birds of a feather flock together. Surround yourself with positive people. People who are motivated and moving forward. Remember getting into the door is not enough. You are capable of going all the way to the top.

Always do an outstanding job on whatever you are required to do. Your work represents you, so always go above and beyond. Make sure that you always arrive to work on time and be ready to work.

These are just a few tips that will help launch your career.
