Eating breakfast by a window. Catching a few minutes of sun in the a.m. will help to balance brain chemicals and reduce symptoms.
Duplicating the sun. If the sun doesn't seem to be on your side you can purchase a light box to give you what you need. A light box is a fluorescent light that mimics the suns rays. You can use it any time you are feeling a little down.
Regulating hormones with candlelight. Simply gazing into a candle can regulate melatonin and other hormones responsible for the winter blues.
Trying melatonin. Just by taking .5 mg of melatonin in the afternoon can help to regulate your sleep-wake patterns and reduce symptoms of SAD.
Using vacation days. Maybe you need a few days away where the sun is shining. Even a short vacation is enough to get relief from minor symptoms.
Taking a daily vitamin. Vitamin B, thiamin and folic acid are great mood enhancers. Try a B-complex for best results.
**Symptoms of SAD include stress, feelings of hopelessness, cravings for sweets, weight gain, oversleeping, difficulty concentrating and lack of socialization. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms be sure to see your doctor as SAD can turn into depression
