How to Avoid Scratching Your Amazon Kindle's Screen

Phil Dotree
The Amazon Kindle has a very scratch resistant screen, but it's not perfect, and even a single scratch can degrade your reading experience significantly.

If you've bought an Amazon Kindle, you should keep it protected. Here are a few tips to help you avoid scratches on an Amazon Kindle's screen.

Get A Good Case. Cases are very inexpensive, and they're the best way to protect your Amazon Kindle while you're traveling or when it's not in use. Get a case with a good amount of padding. Try to test it out before you buy one, if possible, or read the user reviews to make sure that you're getting a quality case that will keep the device protected.

This is also a good time to mention that most Kindle scratches occur while traveling, so always keep your Kindle in a safe spot away from pens, razors, and anything else that could cause a scratch, particularly when checking your bags.

Be Careful On The Beach. Sand can easily cause a bunch of minor scratches on an Amazon Kindle, and while it's fun to read on the beach, it's important to be careful. Lay down a solid beach towel, hold the Kindle away from the sand, and use a bit of common sense.

You might also want to gently clean your Kindle once you get off of the beach. Use a light microfiber cloth. This will remove any particles of sand that could cause scratches. In fact, regularly cleaning your Kindle is a good habit to get into in general, as it will remove other contaminants that cause scratches and help to keep the Kindle looking great.

Don't Use Abrasive Scratch Repair Products. Some Kindle users end up with a tiny scratch or two and decide to use a scratch repair system to restore the screen. This is generally a bad idea. Most of the common scratch repair products on the market are designed for electronics that have shiny screens, and the Amazon Kindle is specifically designed not to have such a screen, as this makes it easier to read in direct light.

If you get a scratch on your Kindle, look for a product that will fill in the scratch, not something that will sand down the screen. Otherwise, you may end up with a big function-limiting shiny spot on your Kindle's screen, which will usually be much more annoying than a scratch or two.
