Playing sports is great for many reasons. First ,it helps your children to be in good shape and spend their energy. It also teaches them to test their limits and how to be consistant. Moreover, it is a great way to socialize and make friends.

Sport can help your child to be more self-confident and overall sport and physical exercise can have both physical and emotional benefits.

However, playing sports always carries the risk of injuries, and children's sports are no exception to this rule.

The bodies of children are still growing and therefore, the potential damage to bones, tendons, muscles and ligaments are greater than those of adults.

You can take the following measures to help reduce the risk and injuries of sports and leisure-related activities of your children:

First, Try to sort children by weight, size and competence rather than chronological age, especially in contact sports. Sometimes children who are short for their age are trying to perform beyond their abilities to follow the development of larger and stronger peers. This results in an increased risk of injury for them.

Take time to find out who are the children your loved ones are competing with. Some software even take into account the opinion of the parents of their child, aggressiveness and competitiveness in the training leagues.

Secondly, be sure that all sports facilities and playgrounds are safe and well maintained. More than 250,000 injuries occur with playground equipment each year, and unsecured or faulty equipment may increase the risk of damage.

Use proper size, safety tested, and when needed properly fitted protective equipment appropriate for a particular sport. Make sure your children understand the proper use of protective equipment.

Visit your pediatrician for a pre-season physical examination before beginning a sport.

Never push a child to play a sport if he / she feels uncomfortable or physically unable to participate in sports. Similarly, we should not push a child who is injured while playing continue to play or "work through" the pain of an injury. Even if a child usually love his sport, do not insist on participation, if he or she is very tired or ill.

Chek the coach. Certified Athletic Trainers are present at many facilities and have experience with the recognition and prevention of sports injuries.

Always seek medical help when a child is injured or develops a persistent symptoms that interferes with his ability to play.
