How to Avoid Stress at Work

sincerewriter
"Where is that damned writing pad?" You hardly have the urge to obey your editor's order to rework on today's dispatch. He is not happy at all with your work lately. Your phone keeps ringing all the time and your pretty wife is bothering you to return home early as she wants to go out leaving your son with you alone at home. And that new chick in the copy editing department was giving you those come hither looks for the third day running. Does all this sound familiar? How many times have you wondered if you could run away from it all to the beach sands without telling anyone? My friend, you are not alone. This is a typical case of a person who is stressed out. Need some help? Read further...

Organize! Organize!

Nothing is more annoying than not able to find something you need at the office. Clean the disorder on your desk. File every paper in its proper folder, make a list of all office materials (including the writing pads!) and keep them in their rightful places only, not anywhere else. You could come to work a few minutes early to clean up the mess.

Cultivate friends!

Knowing simply that you have friends at work should go a long way to lighten your stress. But please do not interact too much so as to affect your efficiency to get the work done. Remember, silence can work wonders at times!

Smarten up your work space!

Hang a few pictures and wall papers around the working desk. Photos of Bible verses, wisdom quotes and pictures of the wondrous skies can bring an effect to lighten things. Remember not overdo things to make your desk and all around it look like the Prince of Wales Museum! Subtle encouragement can do the trick.

Set the priorities!

Make a priority list of items needed to be accomplished for each day and go through them now and again to keep track of things. When you do this, you wouldn't forget to complete something you had begun before. See if you can sideline a little work that is not so important to the next day.

Return to home!

Others may tell you otherwise, but it is wise not to bring your office back to your home at the end of the day. If you do, you bring the stress back with you.

Be positive!

Laugh it off when things go wrong in spite of trying to do everything right. You'll see your worries disappearing within no time. As for that deadly new chick "Lisa" in the copy editing department, be firm and show her your wedding ring now and then. She can be as beautiful as Ingrid Bergman and as sexy as Raquel Welch, but she still is not worth the trouble you will soon have to face!
