How to Avoid a Urinary Tract Infection

Amanda
As women I hate getting urinary tract infections. I seem to get them more than usual so I am constantly looking for ways to avoid them at all cost. It is a pain that we do not have to go through and here are a few foods that I have found that keep urinary tract infections at bay. I no longer have to be in fear of getting another one.

Vitamin C enriched fruits are a great way to avoid Urinary tract infections. Vitamin C lowers the acidity in a woman's urine. If the acidity is lowered it lowers the chance of infections. So I either take vitamins with extra vitamin C in it or I make sure I have a glass of orange juice in the morning. Of course there are many other foods enriched with vitamin C find your favorite and eat away to a healthier urinary tract.

Studies have shown that women who eat an ounce of Gouda or blue cheese a week are less likely to develop urinary tract studies. So have a salad with fresh blue cheese on top once a week. I love it on top of a chicken sandwich with pepper jack on top, a little spicy and sweet. But blue cheese and Gouda are really required taste foods. Yogurt also has a great effect on the urinary tract so having a yogurt on a day will help just as well.

We all know drinking a lot helps flush out the body and keeps bacteria away before it can latch onto the bladder walls and cause an infection. So drinking tons of water is a must and of course we have all heard that cranberry juice is great to fight off infections. Adding cranberries to recipes is not hard; we all love it with our thanksgiving dinner. Drinking it make sure you buy it in a 100% juice form or you are not helping yourself at all. If you're not a fan of the berry there are pills available that can be taken daily. But here is a little known berry that helps with infections, the blueberry. You can buy blueberry juice in health stores. I dilute it water or put it in seltzer water for a little more kick. It is incredibly healthy for the body and it has natural compounds in it that make it impossible for the bacteria bind to it on the bladder walls. Go blueberries! Add a few to your cereal or pancakes if the drink sounds too harsh for you.
