How to Make Your Baby's First Halloween a Memorable One

Steps You Can Take to Make Halloween a Memorable One for Your Infant

Jennifer Foote
As fall approaches, so does Halloween. Each year, parents prepare for Halloween by purchasing Halloween costumes for their children, reviewing Halloween safety tips, and much more. Halloween is a memorable experience on its own, but if you are the parent of a newborn or an infant, this upcoming Halloween may be your child's first.

Unfortunately, when it comes to first Halloween's, there are many parents who make the decision to stay home. This decision is often attributed to the fact that newborns and infants are too young to consume candy. Although this is true, it is important to remember that Halloween does not have to just be associated with candy and other treats. You can use your baby's first Halloween as a way to connect with friends, family, as well as create great memories. With that in mind, it is important to remember that your decision to celebrate Halloween with your child is one that you need to make on your own.

Should you decide that you would like to take your child out for their first Halloween, there are a number of steps that you can take to make this experience a memorable one. For starters, you will want to choose the perfect baby Halloween costume. Thanks to the internet and thousands of retail stores, you should have a number of baby Halloween costumes to choose from. Should you decide to shop for a baby Halloween costume locally, it is advised that you do so well in advance. You will find that many local retail stores sell out of baby Halloween costumes, especially the cutest ones early on. Online shopping is nice, but make sure your costume order will arrive before Halloween.

In addition to choosing the best baby Halloween costume for your newborn or infant, you will want to decide the route you will take on Halloween. Unless you have an older child, the best houses for candy will likely be the last thing on your mind. What you will want to do is make a list of friends and family members that you would like to see. If you have grandparents or aunts and uncles who live within a close distance to your home, these are types of people that you will want to visit. In fact, you may be surprised with how touched some are that you and your child made an appearance on your baby's first Halloween. If you are unsure as to whether or not you will be able to visit all of the friends and family members on your list, you may want to consider making a few stops the night before.

Perhaps, the best way that you can go about ensuring that your baby's first Halloween is a memorable one is by documentation. Be sure to bring a camera or a camcorder along with you on Halloween night. Before you leave your home to start your visit, you will want to take a number of photographs with you and your child, spouse, or other siblings. This is also the opportunity for you to "stage," a few photographs with Halloween decorations in the background. When you are out visiting friends or family members, it is advised that you take as many photographs as possible, especially if you own a digital camera. Video recordings are also nice. Documentation of your baby's first Halloween is something that you, as well as your child, can cherish for years to come.

The above mentioned ways are just a few of the many ways that you can go about making your baby's first Halloween a memorable one. As a reminder, be sure to take as many pictures as possible, as they are pictures that you will be sure to enjoy for years to come.

Good ideas. We dressed our 3 1/2 month old as a tennis ball and we went as tennis players last year to a party. It was great fun.
