How to Get Back on the Healthy Eating Track

Toni Yeomans
So you're tired of having to look at that extra "pudge" that likes to hang around in certain areas of your body. You're wishing that you would fit into a certain dress, pair of jeans, or even t-shirt again, but you just aren't eating right and you know it. Days are spent stressing out over how you look, and you just can't seem to find the willpower to start eating right and maybe exercising a little. The key, as I'm sure you've heard many times before, is to take it as slowly as you need to. A good way to start, is to start slow, then start adjusting yourself to how you're progressing.

The first thing thats easiest to do is change breakfast. Do not skip it if you can help it. Instead have an apple and some yogurt, a small serving of cereal, or just anything considered healthy by itself without added sugars and unnecessary extra fat. I've noticed Yoplait's yogurts (the ones with the 'burns more fat' labels) are a filling snack or breakfast and help me start my day as well as my diet off better. Eat three meals a day, and include anything healthy that you can, such as apples, carrots, any fruit or vegetable. Snacks of course, should be healthy as well, and if you can't start off with a lot of healthy foods right away then have yourself promise to slowly cut fatty junk foods out. Drink water with breakfast too if you have a problem with drinking soda for breakfast (like I did) or if you have a problem with drinking loads of soda at anytime of the day. Drinking lots of water in general is just a good idea and will definitely help with this. If you find it hard to cut soda out of your life completely then just limit yourself to whatever you think you should be limited to.

Second, see if you can find a generalization of what your BMI (Body Mass Index) should be. The ones online aren't usually correct, but some give somewhat of an idea as to where you should be. There are also some books out there and websites that will show how many calories you should be consuming in a day, as well as how many grams of fat, protein and so on. They are extremely helpful and make it easier to get the hang of actually reading the ingredient/nutrition facts labels. CalorieKing.com has this great book that gives great information on the calories in foods, how you should be eating depending on how active you are and so on.

Third, do whatever it takes to get you motivated to be active, find someone who is also interested in getting back on track. If you can't find another person who is interested then don't worry. Just remind yourself that you are doing this for yourself and your body, and if it helps then think about how many double takes people will start doing soon after or even during the process. Or, go online and find a support group, there are many out there with many people who are looking for buddies to go along with them in their journeys to be healthy.

Last, but not least, get rid of any stress that you can. It seems hard, but it really shouldn't be. All it takes is curling up with a good book, writing whatever comes to mind if you feel like or are into it, or even taking a bath by candlelight before you head to bed. Or even give yourself some good laughs with a comedy movie.Just don't snack on junk while you're watching it, since we tend to feed ourselves mindlessly while sitting in front of televisions or computers. As we all know stress makes it a struggle to lose any weight, which is frustrating and ends up stressing us out more. This all of course, won't work for everyone as everyone is different, so just don't ever give up hope. It is possible to eat healthy again, just make sure to find the way that is right for you.
