How to Make a Bag Holder for Plastic Bags

Angel
Articles you will need to create a plastic canvas bag holder are as follows:

1 sewing needle (or your sewing machine)

1 kitchen towel or about a yard of material

2 6 inch strips of elastic or 2 rubber bands

1 spool of thread color to match the towel

1 6 inch piece of ribbon

1 safety pin

This is rather quick and easy to do, faster if you use a sewing machine but it can be done by hand while watching television. If you are going to use material instead of a towel you will have to adapt these instructions to meet your needs.

If you picked a towel for your bag holder that contains fringe at the ends, you may want to cut that off before starting, or you will need to stitch the elastic higher up.

We will be using the simple straight stitch for all sewing or a sewing machine. I prefer to stitch by hand because I feel I have more control.

Take the towel and fold it so the outside of the towel is facing you, folding it in half the long way making it appear like the pictures. Stitch down the sides creating it's a secure loop like how you would wrap the towel around your body.

Near the bottom about ΒΌ inch up, take a piece of your elastic and stitch one side of it securely to the towel. I find it best to put a safety pin attached to the elastic so it's easier to pull it through the towel. If you are using rubber bands this will be a bit harder to do....

Fold the bottom bit of the towel up covering the elastic. Stitch by hand or with a sewing machine all the way to the end in a straight line. When you have finished, pull the elastic through the towel to meet the end of where you secured the first half. Stitch that there. Repeat this for the other end of the bag holder.

Take your 6 inch piece of ribbon and secure it at the top middle along the spine that has been stitch together. Make sure your ribbon has been stitched extremely secure, other wise it will be pulled off with the tugging on the bag holder. If you wish to mix it up a bit instead of using a ribbon for your bag holder you could use material that would match. You can also add lace to the outside of the bag holder too.

When you have finished that, turn the towel inside out (making it right side out) and fill with plastic bags and hang it in your kitchen. You have finished.

Be careful if you use material to not make the opening too small.

These plastic bag holders make great gifts and are excellent for craft sales as you can sell them for anywhere from $3 to $10 it all depends on the amount of profit as well as the material used to create the bag holder.
