The first step you will want to take is to preheat your over to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Once your oven is at a toasty 375 degrees, grab two round 8 inch cake pans and put down a layer of grease and a light coating of flour. Set the cake pans aside and grab a small mixing bowl. In the mixing bowl you will need to add flour, salt, and baking powder. Set this aside as well and pick up a large mixing bowl. Be prepared with a hand mixer because you will need to beat butter for half a minute. If you don't have butter, margarine works just as well.
The mixer speed should be anywhere from low to medium, high is too much for butter alone. After mixing the butter for half a minute, add sugar and vanilla and continue to mix. Half a minute after the sugar and vanilla, toss in your eggs one a time. Be sure to go slowly and fully mix the egg yolks.
Once you have completed adding your eggs, go ahead and add milk and dry flour mixture. Mix at a consistent speed until everything is combined and settled. Pour your batter into the prepared cake pans you set aside earlier and bake in your oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
Remove your cakes and let them cool. Once at a desired temperature, apply your favorite frosting and toppings and serve to your guests. I personally love the typical CoolWhip but many additions go well with it. Anything from Hershey's Chocolate Syrup to Maple Syrup will work fine. You can put any desired topping on the yellow cake and it will go great hand and hand. This is one of the many advantages to baking yellow cake. Prepare, Serve, and Enjoy!
