Top Tips for Getting and Achieving that Perfect Work/Life Balance

Getting a good balance between your home and work life can often be one of the most difficult things, especially for people who work from home. For everyone though there never seems to be the right balance. Getting a balance is essential for both your health and wellbeing. Overworking and not having any free time is no good for anyone, including yourself, your friends and your family.

So to get the balance you have to decide what needs to give. This doesn't mean giving up something, but it could mean cutting back on the hours you put into something. For example if you are starting up a small business, could you work from home, or perhaps even spread out when you work. For example, rather than working into your weekends could you work earlier in the mornings or later on into the night?

Of course, getting the perfect balance is hard for anyone, and sometimes it comes at a cost to your career, or even to your family life, but at the end of the day you have to think about what is more important to you, is it time with your family, relaxing or perhaps taking part in a hobby, or is it working and earning money. Everyone is different and so you need to sit down and weight up the pros and cons for everything, see where you can shift the balance a bit to make you happier.

Here are Some Top Tips for a better balance:

  • 1. Enjoy your free time more. Even if you only get 30 minutes of you time a day, make it count, and work out how you can make more of this time. Plan out what you can do and give yourself something to look forward to.
  • 2. Remember that holidays are important, even if you only have two or three days off from normality, it is still better than nothing, and if you are a workaholic, these few days may just help you get a better overall balance.
  • 3. Don't push yourself to uncomfortable or unachievable targets. Of course, everyone would like more free time, but don't tire yourself out working 18+ hour days to achieve this, as this would negatively result on the balance and on your personal health.

Like with anything and everything, balance comes with time, patience and a bit of effort. However, with persistence you can get the perfect work and life balance that is right for you.
