How to Create a New Document
Open your Microsoft Word program. There are two ways to create a new document. The first way, is to click the little white icon at the top of your Microsoft Word program. It looks like a sheet of paper with the top right corner curled. Clicking that will create a new document. The second way, is to click File > New at the top of your program. When you click File > New, you will see a little screen pop up in your program. Choose Blank Document from that screen to create a new document.
How to Save a New Document
Go to the top of your Microsoft Word program and click File > Save As. A dialog box will pop up. Choose where you want to save the document on your computer. Then type in the name that you want to save this document under and click the Save button on the dialog box. That will save your document.
How to Save your Work as you go
If you are typing an article or something along those lines, it is a good idea to keep saving the changes that you have made every so often. To keep from using my mouse and stopping to go to the top of my program to save my work, I simply press CTRL S on my keyboard. CTRL + S will save your work. You can also click the floppy disk icon at the top of your program to save your work, or you can click File > Save. Which ever is more convenient for you.
How to Open a Document
Click File > Open at the top of your program. A dialog box will pop up on your screen. Locate the file on your computer that you want to open. Click it one time and click the Open button. You can also double click the file and it will open.
