How to Beat the Back to School Crowds While Shopping

Back to school shopping can be fun. However, it can also be frustrating. You go to one store hoping to find what you need and, when the item is out of stock, you have to go on the same adventure at another store. The stress increases if you have more than one child. It is like Christmas shopping in August. These handy tips will take the frustration out of shopping for school supplies and clothes and make the experience fun.

Set a family budget for clothes and shoes. This allows your child to choose wisely. They are more likely to browse the clearance racks than pay full-price for jeans.

While Wal-Mart does not offer a lay-away at their stores any longer, both K-Mart and T. J. Max still have this option for those who need to shop on a budget. By picking out the clothes in early summer and making weekly payments to items on layaway, your bank account will not be broken.

It is best to plan ahead. Check the school supply list that your child receives. Do an inventory of what is already in the house. Most likely, there will be a notebook that was never used or a binder that can see another year.

Do not try to do all the shopping in one day. This can be stressful, especially if you are trying to get other things done, such as cleaning house, during the day. Instead break down the shopping into several days. Set a time limit, such as an hour, for each day.

If you have more than one child, do your back to school shopping with one child at a time. This way you will not be rushing when your other children get bored. That way you are ensured that you will get the items your child will need; you most likely will not have to make unnecessary trips back to the store for something you forgot to get.

Do your back to school shopping at off hours. For example, if you want to go to Wal-Mart, shop later at night. This store is open 24 hours a day. The crowds at 10:00 at night are thinner than if you shopped there during the day. Your child may be thrilled when you take him shopping at this time of night. Also go to stores just as they are opening for the day or an hour before closing time. In the morning you will beat the crowds; most of the customers will be done with their shopping just before closing time.

Back to school shopping can be fun. You just have to remember to be organized. Know what you need to get, where you are going to shop and how much you are going to spend. Have fun!
