To start, I will begin by saying that you must beat the game on the other levels. Don't go out, buy the game, and play it for the first time on veteran! You will never make any progress. Get to know the story a little, play on easy first then move up to hardened. When you feel like you know the game, you can try to play on veteran. Read on for more tips.
When playing on veteran, there are a few things you should remember. You get hit 3 times (at the most), you are dead! So, when you get hit at all, run for cover. Keep in mind that sheet metal and small plywood sheets can be shot through, but trees and walls cannot. Try to stay in cover for as long as you can.
Remember that some characters will not die whatsoever. They are invincible! Remember all of the characters that are in the final level. For CoD4, there is Captain Price, Gaz, and Sgt. Griggs. THey cannot die because they wouldn't be there in the end. This means that if you are hurt, let them take over for a while. They will not die and can take control of the situation.
Also keep in mind that grenades are your main enemy on veteran. If you stay still for too long, you will get hammered with grenades. Always try to use grenade throwback if you can, but if you can't, just run for cover. If you are close enough that you see the grenade indicator, you are going to be killed.
Remember to lock on! If you look down the scope and quickly pull away and then do it again, it will lock on to a near target. This will make it really easy to kill targets without even trying! As long as you take them out before they take you out, you are ok.
Always reload. Even if you are right in the middle of battle, if you get a kill, and things settle down, reload! The difference between one bullet could be the difference between life and death! Try to keep both your primary and secondary weapon reloaded at all times. That leads me to my next topic, your primary weapon. Do not keep the pistol that you are given. When you get a kill, go get that gun and switch your pistol for it. You are much better off with two more powerful guns.
Well, that is all. I hope that you can beat that game on veteran! Just follow the tips, and also discover your own!
