Department stores usually find their business at a low during the summer and early fall. This is due to the fact that are no major holidays between Father's Day in June and Thanksgiving in November. For this reason, many shops offer sales and deals during these months to entice shoppers through their door. Consider doing your Christmas shopping during July or August, as this a perfect opportunity to pick up some presents at a low price, and without the holiday crowds!
You should also keep your eye out for sales going on during other holidays throughout the year. Stores will have discounted prices and extra savings during Easter, Memorial Day, and Columbus Day. Some states offer tax free weekends when clothing and computers can be purchased without paying tax. Though the stores will be crowded during these times, it will be nothing compared to the amount of people in there in December.
Another good time of the year to do some Christmas shopping is the week after Christmas. The stores are usually busy at this time, but it is with returns more so than purchases. Plus, a lot of the small gifts available during the Christmas season are drastically reduced. You could definitely rack up on stocking stuffers and gifts for friends for the following holiday just days after the last one.
As you can see, many people may wait until Black Friday to begin their Christmas shopping, but that day is typically reserved for extremely devoted shoppers. If you prefer to shop without being pushed out of the way while still getting good deals on gifts, try the other times of the year mentioned above. You also better find a great hiding place for the all the presents so someone sneaking around will not be able to find their presents before December 25th!
