If you're like me you've had enough of the disgusting creatures. I say disgusting because you can actually ingest these suckers and end up with a tapeworm in your intestines.
I actually got rid of my puppy thinking that would end my problems with the infestation. After all, if they didn't have the host how could they survive. I was wrong. The fleas began jumping onto me and my family. When I found a few in my daughters hair after bombing the house I was fed up. I did research online and found several if not hundreds of different ways to get rid of the fleas. They all seemed fool proof but included investing a lot of time into. I just wasn't sure I had the energy but decided I would go ahead and try some of them.
I tried the dishwater soap in a bowl. I didn't attract a single flea. I tried the bombs as stated above. I tried vacuuming everyday. I tried washing everything as far as the bedding and pillowcases go.
While these were the only things I tried it seemed to be getting too exhausting to even think about trying anything else.
When my grandmother mentioned a product to me I was very skeptical. I wanted to think it would be as simple as spraying this product around the house but didn't believe her to begin with. Then another flea decided to try to call my 7-week-old daughter's head home. I'd had enough. My children and myself were not dogs. I wasn't going to stand for the fleas any longer, especially after seeing several flea bites on my youngest daughter.
I looked at this product over the internet and not one mention of getting rid of fleas was on their website. I decided I would just spray seven dust around the house and bomb the house again.
The back of seven dust talks about flea beetles and such but no read of actual fleas. Then I read the back of the product my grandmother had suggested. Home Defense. It came in a container with an attached sprayer. There in small black ink it said it kills fleas.
With some bombs in my hand that claimed to kill fleas and hatching eggs I grabbed the Home Defense container.
That same day I sprayed the outside of my house as instructed and set off the flea bombs. I came back after nearly 5 hours later to air out the house. While I was airing it out I sprayed the Home Defense on the inside as well.
It took some effort and time. But, now nearly 2 weeks later I haven't seen a single flea. I saw some soon after bombing and spraying, but now it seems they have left for good.
Here's the exact process I went through:
1. Vacuum every room.
2. Spray the outside of the house with Home Defense. Even around the windows and doors.
3. Set off the bombs. Make sure to get ones that mention killing the eggs as well.
4. Air out the house, spray the Home Defense along the baseboards of every room and every cranny.
5. Vacuum again, making sure to dump what is picked up outside away from your house.
6. Wash blankets, pillow cases, and every item of clothing that has been on the floor for a little bit.
That was it.
Although, my husband and I have decided we want to bomb the house again soon and spray the Home Defense one more time just to be sure. I can't take another infestation.
While it took me all day to wash everything (laundry always takes forever) the rest of it took an average of 4 hours. And, that's including airing out the house.
Hopefully, you'll have as much success as I had with these two lines of defense against fleas. They can be a pain, especially taking up residence where they are not wanted.
In case you are curious I have posted links to other remedies to getting rid of fleas that I found.
