How to Beat the Summer Heat

The summer heat can be brutal. It can make you miserable and even very sick. With a few helpful pointers you can beat the summer heat and enjoy your time outdoors. No matter what part of the world you are in, you will have days where you will not want to spend a lot of time outside.

The main key in the summer months is to keep yourself hydrated. Drinking lots of fluids and eating properly will help drastically. Drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times so you have it available is crucial. Don't drink soda because that will actually dehydrate you because of all the sugars in the soda.

When you are outside on a hot and sunny day, make sure to find a shady spot to sit. You will still get some of those summer rays and fresh air but you will keep a lot cooler. Find a spot under a tree or covered spot and sit down on a chair. Remember that even though you are in the shade you will need to apply sunscreen to prevent burning. There is nothing more miserable than being sun burnt in the summer time. It can be really painful and uncomfortable.

Another way of keeping cool in the summer is to go for a swim. If you are at an outdoor pool, again, I would recommend a sunscreen, but make sure it is waterproof. Also you will want to read the directions on the bottle. You may need to apply a certain amount of time before you swim, and you may need to apply more often because it will wear off faster and being in the water you will attract more rays.

On the days when it is unbearable, make sure you limit your time outdoors. Especially for your little children who always want to run around. You can get dehydrated really quickly in the heat of the day. I also suggest wearing a hat or a visor to shade and protect your face. Your face will be one of the first things that will burn.

If you follow these suggestions you will be successful in beating the summer heat. If at all possible limit the time outside and have some indoor activities already planned for the children to keep them indoors in the hottest parts of the day. If they must go outside to play, try to make it later in the day, after the sun starts to go down and the temperatures start to drop. Get out and enjoy your summer, just be smart about it!

Good tips - we're in a cold snap here so it is hard to imagine that "too warm" feeling, but I know it is just around the bend!
