How to Beauty and Style Guide for Moms and New Moms

Laurie Tam
As a stay and work at home mom, I was thinking of all the style changes I was going through such as my teenage years and after that. My styles have changed and it now suits me. I am also expecting a fourth child in January 2010 which might stall me from my writing career for a bit just to take care of the newest member of the family.

I wanted to pass down some wisdom to other moms since we are still here on earth and I believe that we should all dress up looking like a woman but still look hot and stylish but not slutty. Years ago, moms are usually viewed as just moms where we were expected to wear plain and boring clothes or even in sweat stuff around and outside of the house. Things have change for women when it comes to styles on new moms, pregnant women and moms with kids.

I would like to offer you my perspective on things when it comes to beauty.

1. Since I am close to 30 and I still look very young for my age, I hardly wear makeup. And when I do, I usually just have on a lip balm and/or lip gloss which I love the tube ones coming from Bath & Body Works here in Seattle, WA at Northgate Mall. Putting on globs of makeup all the time will age the skin faster and if you don't let your skin breathe, you will get breakouts. I can guarantee that.

2. If I ever do get any breakouts such as recently I did, I would not recommend washing your face more than 2 or 3 times a day. Not only will it strip away the moisture but also will aggravate the condition even more than necessary. I have been using a facial bar soap that is blue all over and it works for me. I don't use cleanser.

3. I think using exfoliating scrubs is best for your face whether you have breakouts or not. Just make sure to not rub so hard during the breakouts since you are trying to eliminate the condition. Not aggravate and make it stay there longer.

4. Sometimes using witch hazel in place of toner is better since it is more gentler to your skin compare to toners. You use it to help you eliminate more stuff that just washing will miss. You should only use facial moisturizers that won't cause you to breakout. Look for the ones that would work with your skin condition. Never use body lotions on your face.

5. Never smoke, do drugs and to not overdo the booze as often as you can. Your body and looks will fade faster and plus, can make you even not healthy. Exercising at least 2 or 3 times a week for half an hour or an hour should do. It will make your body stronger and can boost up your confidence even more.

Now for the clothes section

Now I know that all of us women have our own style but here is my story. I used to wear baggy kind of clothes when I was in high school and did I look like a joke being drowned out by the big clothes. I am only 5'0 tall and I finally found my kind of style that would fit me after all these years. I have started wearing tight and comfortable kind of clothes since early or middle 20s somewhere. Stores such as Wet Seals and The Rave at Northgate Mall here in Seattle have completely changed my life for the better due to the clothes I love. I would, however, shy away from baggy, big and sweat kind of outfits because in my opinion on how you dress, you present to the world and image is everything. Clothes that are baggy and big means that you have low self esteem. If you are out of shape do something. Take the time to take care of yourself on mentally, physically and spiritually. Find a style that would speak to you where you know it says it is you and you are comfortable in. Take all of this advice and make a style of your own even as a mom or new mom.

Yeah, I used to wear baggy clothes in high school too, but then I realized that fitted clothes are the way to go. I think that many people in high school wear bigger clothes because they are embarrassed about their bodies. However, many other folks erroneously think that baggy clothes hide their weight.
