In addition to Cisco's Entry, Associate, Professional and Expert Certificates, Cisco offers Specialist Certifications to verify knowledge and expertise in a more focused specialty. Specialist Certifications are available in the following categories: Advanced Routing & Switching, Data Center, Foundation for Channels Partners, Unified Communications, Security, and Wireless LAN.

According to Cisco, "The Cisco IP Communications certifications validate proficiency in designing, installing, and supporting a multi-service network solution. Building upon a strong foundational knowledge of Microsoft Exchange 2000 or 2003, the Cisco Unity Design Specialist can install, configure, operate, and maintain a Cisco Unity 4.0 system in both stand-alone voice mail and unified messaging environments, and possesses the knowledge and expertise necessary to create a variety of sustainable Cisco Unity design solutions tailored to specific customer requirements."

PREREQUISITES:

The prerequisite for the Cisco Unity Design Specialist Certification is a valid CCDA Certification.

RECOMMENDED TRAINING:

Cisco recommends two training courses to help prepare you for this certification; Cisco Unity Design and Networking (CUDN) and Unified Communications System Engineer (UCSE). These courses are available through Cisco's Learning Partners. They are 4 day courses with classroom only delivery.

TAKE REQUIRED EXAM:

Cisco requires one exam to attain this certification; 6642-072 CUDN - Cisco Unity Design and Networking (75 minute exam, with 65-75 questions). Once you are prepared to take your exam, you can register for it at Vue.

RECERTIFICATION:

Cisco Specialist Certifications are valid for two years. To recertify, you will need to take and pass the current version of the required exam(s) or pass a current CCIE written exam.
