How to Become a Contestant on Jeopardy

Misty N.

Once upon a time, becoming a Jeopardy contestant involved at least two trips to the California studios. One of these trips was to take the Jeopardy contestant quiz and another one to play in a mock version of the game. However, with the advances in technology, especially the internet, these requirements are changing.

Just this month, Jeopardy performed its first online Jeopardy contestant quiz. This quiz was once only available by scheduling an appointment at the Jeopardy studio in California. Taking the test, and even passing the test, are not a guarantee that you will be on the show. So, for most people, taking the time and money to go down and take the test was a big gamble.

Last month, however, the process was made much easier. Jeopardy contestants could simply register via the Jeopardy website, pick out which audition site they would like to appear at if they passed the test and were chosen, and log in and take the quiz. The process was pretty straight forward with different regions of the country taking the quiz on one of three different days.

For many individuals, the quiz was the last step. However, for a select few the process will continue. Next comes the interview and audition process. This is where Jeopardy producers pick out the contestants that are not only good at playing the game, but also people who stand out personality wise.

Those who are chosen should not expect to appear on Jeopardy the next day, week, or even the next month. Those few who are picked out by producers will go into a Jeopardy contestant pool. This pool holds the names of all the potential Jeopardy contestants. It may take up to a full year before they call you in, if they do at all.

There are additional ways to audition for Jeopardy. At times, the Jeopardy crew will hold special events such as Brain Bus events. These are events that promote the show, and at the same time, offer some individuals the chance to take a mini Jeopardy contestant quiz. There is no guarantee that you will be given the chance to audition, but these events are usually very fun and may even be close to where you live.

The one thing to remember is that a lot of people are smart. Intelligence is not the only thing that makes a Jeopardy contestant. You have to have the personality to stand out in a crowd. You also have to have the drive and determination to carry out the contestant process. Most of all, you have to want it.

How do you submit a recommendation for a Jeopardy topic, including questions and answers?
I am Interested in recommending the category "U.S. Military", and will include Qs and As about the various services - definitely an educational opportunity and a way to show appreciation for the men and women who have served and are serving today.
